GET INVOLVED

Start with your curiosity.
Contribute what you know.

There are practical ways to engage with the Foundation’s work today. Choose the path that matches your interest, whether you are exploring an idea or bringing specialist experience.

01 / LEARNERS & RESEARCHERS

Follow an idea through to its evidence.

Start with a question you want to understand. How does a cloud marketplace allocate resources? What information does an identity check reveal? How could an autonomous agent remain subject to human oversight?

  1. Choose a question in the research portfolio or an introductory VirtEngine guide.
  2. Read the linked program explanation, then inspect the technical documentation or source.
  3. Compare the intended design with its stated development status. Send a clear question or suggest an improvement if an explanation is missing.

02 / DEVELOPERS & WRITERS

Make the next contribution useful.

Open-source work benefits from clear explanations, tests, issue reports, and careful review as well as code. VirtEngine and Bosun publish their implementations under Apache 2.0.

  1. Choose the relevant repository and read its current README and contribution instructions.
  2. Check existing issues. For a bug, include the version, reproduction steps, expected behaviour, and observed result.
  3. Discuss a substantial proposed change before implementing it. Follow the repository’s security reporting process for vulnerabilities.

03 / RESEARCH COLLABORATION

Bring a question with a public purpose.

We welcome enquiries concerning privacy, distributed infrastructure, technology education, and accountable AI. A useful starting point is a defined problem and an explanation of who could benefit from addressing it.

  1. Identify the program or research question your enquiry relates to.
  2. Describe your background, the proposed work, and any relevant public code or publications.
  3. Explain the intended public benefit and practical constraints. Avoid sending sensitive personal or confidential research data in an initial enquiry.

Contact opens a discussion. It does not establish a partnership, funding commitment, or program place.

04 / INFRASTRUCTURE OPERATORS

Understand the requirements before participating.

VirtEngine’s operator material explains the proposed provider and validator roles. The network is not live, so those pages support learning and preparation rather than access to an available earning opportunity.

  1. Check the official network status and launch conditions.
  2. Review the architecture, integration requirements, key management, and security responsibilities.
  3. Use official release and verification instructions when a network becomes available.

FOUNDATION MEMBERSHIP

Contribution and membership are different.

Reading resources and contributing to open-source projects do not require formal Foundation membership. Membership is a constitutional role with eligibility rules, limited places, and an approval process.
